Le KPV 10mgis a synthetic tripeptide (Lysine-Proline-Valine) corresponding to the C-terminal fragment of α-MSH (melanomaly-stimulating hormone). Molecular mechanism of action
KPV acts via several complementary anti-inflammatory pathways: (1)inhibition of NF-κB— blocks the nuclear translocation of the pro-inflammatory transcription factor, reducing cytokine production; (2)reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines— decreases the expression of TNF-α and IL-1β; (3)intestinal transport via PepT1— when internalized by intestinal epithelial and immune cells, it exerts a direct local anti-inflammatory action; (4)independent action of melanocortin receptors— the anti-inflammatory effect is exerted without stimulation of melanogenesis; (5)antimicrobial properties— documented activity against certain bacteria and yeasts.
