Le SNAP-8(Acetyl Octapeptide-3, also known as Leuphasyl) is a synthetic octapeptide of 8 amino acids designed for research on skin aging and neuromuscular modulation. It replicates the N-terminal sequence of the SNAP-25 protein (Synaptosomal-Associated Protein 25), an essential component of the SNARE complex, and represents a direct evolution of Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-3) with increased efficacy in in vitro studies on muscle contractions responsible for expression lines.
Molecular mechanism of action
SNAP-8 competes with the endogenous SNAP-25 protein to form the SNARE complex (composed of SNAP-25, Syntaxin, and VAMP/Synaptobrevin). By partially inhibiting the assembly of this protein complex, the peptide reduces the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, thereby decreasing the intensity of repetitive muscle contractions responsible for expression lines. Unlike botulinum toxin, this effect is reversible, dose-dependent, and localized.
